Friday, March 13, 2009--Bangkok/Pattaya

Friday, March 13, 2009--Bangkok/Pattaya

This was our final morning in Bangkok and we decided to run around the city a bit before our driver picked us up to return to Pattaya. We all took the Skytrain, but went in separate directions--Don and Wit went to Central Chitlom for Wit to do some shopping while Julian and Joe went to Julian's favorite bookstore to pick up some books (which, BTW, are not cheap here in Thailand, even used). We all rondevouzed at Central and had a cool drink before heading back to the hotel.

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped to (you guessed it!) eat some street food. We had a delicious lunch for three (Julian went on back to the hotel) for about $2 US. You can see a picture of the food here:

Once back at the hotel, we finished packing and went downstairs where our driver was waiting for us. The driver had a nice new van that was quite large--which was good since Wit had bought a number of large plants to bring back to Pattaya with him. We made the drive in about 2 hours and it was uneventful. Arriving back at the house, we found everything to be in order. After unpacking, everyone caught up on e-mail, etc.

Around 5:30p, Joe, Julian, and Don headed over to Soi 7 (a Soi is a minor connecting road) to get more of the delicious ribs that we had for dinner on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the vendor never showed up, so around 6:40p, we gave up and came back to the house. We went for a quick swim in the pool, then Joe and Wit went to the night market (which is pretty far from the house) to pick up stuff for dinner.

The dinner was quite good and had a lot of variety. Plus, Joe really enjoyed the market and we are making plans to return there tomorrow (Saturday) night to wander around some. You can see the food here:

Dinner created a bunch of dirty dishes, so Don did kitchen duty while Joe experimented with the Thai tea that we had picked up. He decided to let it brew overnight to get a good strong flavor. We'll let you know tomorrow how it turns out.

By the time the dishes were done, it was already 9:00p, so we decided to watch an episode of "Life" (a CBS show) and then call it a day.

Tomorrow: No plans during the day yet, a visit to the night market, and dinner (hopefully ribs--if the vendor shows up).
